I know that I, personally (Emily in produce), am getting ahead of myself by planning for cooler temperatures already, but I love wearing coats and layers of clothing, so I can't really help it. I'm also a huge fan of hearty, warm meals to accompany my bundled-up self. This includes soups, curries, and chili, of course. The Merc produce department is a great place to pick up inspiration for your standard and maybe less-than-typical chili recipes. We have onions, ripe, savory tomatoes, and a rainbow of local chiles and peppers. One of my favorites is Irick Farm's hatch chiles. They're sweet like a bell pepper with moderate heat as you get closer to the seeds. They're hot without being painful and overpowering. There are also alternatives to add for extra texture and taste like zucchini, mushrooms, and even celery or carrots. I plan on doing a lot of experimenting this winter with new flavors and recipes and am making the Merc my go-to stop for my supplies!
