Growing Food, Growing Health Update
Late Summer Bounty and Early Fall Crops!
Here's a short and sweet update about what's going on in the world of the Growing Food, Growing Health school gardens...
Harvesting for the cafeterias. For the past three seasons, we have enjoyed providing the West Middle School Cafeteria with garden-fresh produce. NOW, we are excited that Sunset Hill is sharing in the bounty. We harvested 50 pounds of produce on Sunday, to reach a grand total of 1,200 pounds harvested for SCHOOL CAFETERIAS throughout the project. Thank goodness for late summer bounty and early fall crops!
Disc Golf for Gardens. The folks from Homegrown Lawrence are hosting a Disc Gold tournament at Centennial Park this Saturday, September 29. The proceeds from the tournament will be donated to school gardens around Lawrence, including ours! More info can be found here.
The Little Merc-maid. I hope you are ready for a good laugh! A few highly motivated employees from The Merc pooled their creative energy to write, direct, produce, edit, and submit a video for the My Co-op Rocks contest. Simply because The Merc Co-op does ROCK! And the cash winnings will be donated to our Growing Food, Growing Health School Garden Projects. Please watch this underwater adventure (get it, little Merc-maid?!), take a minute to vote, and pass it along to your friends. You can vote once a day until November 30, and we need your votes to win! Enjoy it here. Feel free to laugh at Garden Coordinator Lily Siebert's Flounder impersonation.
That's all for now. Don't forget, you can follow GFGH on Facebook for up-to-the-minute updates on school gardens.
