The Asian pear is unlike the more common varieties of pear. Rather than being soft and buttery in texture, it's crisp and juicy with a very sweet flavor. As with most pears, Asian pears that are slightly soft and yield to pressure are ready to eat. These are best eaten out of hand, as their crisp texture and juiciness makes them less than ideal for baking and cooking. Don't let their rough and unusual exterior keep you from enjoying all the goodness inside!
