Co-op Will Not Re-open Library Cafe

After much thought and data analysis, the co-op has elected to not re-open our café within the Lawrence Public Library. Since opening in 2017, it has been difficult to balance the sales and labor needed to support the café.

Due to the pandemic, the library had to make a number of changes, including closing for several months last year and modifying their hours. As of March 2020, our café has been closed for an entire year. Today, with pandemic protocols in place (15 minute visitation limits, 50 person building capacities, no on-site eating) and no clear end to those in sight, the potential for our café to thrive is nil.

In addition, there is increased competition just across a street from the library with a new café opening in April.

We have enjoyed the opportunity to partner with LPL and their team, and will continue to support the organization and foundation through our outreach and donations programs. Your co-op remains committed to inviting more of our community to shop, eat, learn and participate in our cooperative business.
