Things to Do - Sunflower Summer

Looking for fun, free things to do this summer around Kansas? The Kansas Department of Education designed the Sunflower Summer learning program and guide!

Kids get free tickets to over 70 Kansas attractions like museums, zoos, and historic landmarks! Kansas residents with students enrolled in pre-K - 12th grade are eligible for free passes.

Veggie of the Month: Tomatoes

  • There are around 10,000 varieties of tomatoes worldwide.

  • Tomatoes are related to potatoes, eggplant, and peppers - a family called Solanaceae, or nightshades.

  • According to the Guinness World Record (as of 2013) the heavi-est tomato weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was grown in Ok-lahoma.

  • The biggest tomato fight in the world happens each year in the small Spanish town of Buñol. The festival, called La Tomatina, involves 40,000 people throwing 150,000 tomatoes at each other.

To become a card-carrying Co+op Explorer, kids simply need to bring a parent or supervising adult to the customer service desk and ask to become a Co+op Explorer. Or, use our super easy online form. Each child will be issued their own super official Co+op Explorers card and passport!
