For 400 years black Americans have been subjugated to racial discrimination, degradation and oppression. The murder of George Floyd was a result of the hatred and bigotry that has been allowed to permeate throughout our country, without any substantial policy or accountability toward individuals that have violated the basic American inalienable rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Law enforcement officers who are sworn to protect that, violate these basic rights and are not held accountable by our system of law that is supposed to hold everyone accountable and provide justice to those that have been adversely affected by the malicious actions of other fellow American citizens.
The Merc was founded with the basic premise of affording all families healthy food options that they may otherwise not be able to find anywhere else. We exist to build and strengthen the communities that we serve.
We, the co-op’s Board of Directors, condemn discrimination and racism in our justice system. We stand with the Black community in effectuating change to fight against systemic racial injustice and police brutality. We support the creation of policy that eradicates this pervasive evil that has plagued our country for far too long.
