Fresh & Local Recipe Inspiration
Local season is in full swing! From tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers, to summer squash, melons and peaches - make the most of the abundant produce our farmers have to offer this month. This produce is perfectly ripe and delicious; and, when you put locally grown and raised food on your table, you become part of a sustainable local food system.
Meet Your Producers - Beisecker Farms
Meet Beisecker Farms - a small commercial apple orchard located near Baldwin City, Kansas owned and operated by Tim Beisecker and his wife Andrea Norris.
Their operation has grown from 24 trees in 1978 to over 300 trees and 13 varieties today. You’ll find up to eight of those at the co-op through the end of September.

Fresh Recipe Inspiration
August is National Peach Month! Be sure to celebrate all month long. Peaches—luscious, sweetly aromatic and delicious—are arguably the perfect fruit. It’s little wonder we use the word "peachy" to describe something being just right. Biting into a fresh, juicy peach is a wonderful way to revel in the delights of seasonal summer produce. The fresh fruit is also delicious in smoothies and atop cereal and crepes.
Board Meeting Monday + Get to Know Your Board
The Merc Co+op's Board of Directors is comprised of nine co-op owners who are elected by the general ownership and serve a three-year term. They meet the first Monday of each month (view next month’s agenda here!). Any co-op owner can run for a board position. Participating in co-op elections is your ownership in action – get to know the owners who represent you!
Coloring Contest Winners!
Congratulations to our three coloring contest winners - Brooklyn, Olive, and Lily!
Last month, we installed a new pollinator garden in front of our 901 Iowa location, and held a coloring contest to kick it off! Staff designed our pages, and we received so many wonderful entries brighten our window last month. Thanks to all of our talented artists who participated!

We support the creation of policy that eradicates this pervasive evil that has plagued our country for far too long.
